Rock Me Amadeus!
As someone who’s played in school orchestras for over a decade, watching Amadeus is always a delight. A frustrating delight. It’s so affecting to rival composer Salieri use his position of power to smother Mozart – his work and his life – that it rends my heart. The film is also a visual treat, devout to historical accuracy of the time, save for Salieri’s murderous malice. This unhistorical element might seem like a contradiction, but the film (and the play it’s based on) powerfully explores the relationship between art and artist, and one man’s battle against God. It’s artistic dynamite.
And also, there was this song by Falco, an artist I enjoy for sheer 80s cheese.
